Amprius has signed an 18-month contract with the U.S. Army’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technology Office (RCCTO) to design, develop and test the most advanced high-energy density lithium-ion batteries for its drones. The US Army stated that with the continuous emergence of enemy lethal strike weapons, it is necessary to regularly deploy new equipment such as reconnaissance aircraft to ensure the safety of front-line troops. On the battlefield, such UAVs must have the characteristics of light weight, portability, and long endurance, while traditional batteries are heavy and equipped with UAVs with poor endurance and cannot complete designated tasks. Amprius is the exclusive global producer of silicon nanowire lithium-ion batteries. The company said that 100% silicon anode lithium-ion batteries produced using silicon nanowire technology have recognized energy advantages and can double the endurance of drones.
